Facebook Page Raises $12 Million Fund For Separated Immigrant Families
Charlotte and Dave Willner are in the glare of publicity because of their initiation for a fundraiser on Facebook. The fundraiser is named “Reunite an immigrant parent with their child.” It was initiated after they saw a viral photo of a 2-year-old Honduran girl who was looking up and crying as Border Patrol agent searched her mother in southern Texas.
The page is created on Saturday, June 16, 2018, with an intention to raise a fund of about $1,500. Till now, more than 300,000 donors have contributed in this activity. The page has collected more than $12 Million as of Wednesday. The organizers stated that the page is collecting more than $10,000 per minute.
The Willners proclaimed that the inspiration behind initiating the fundraiser was a photo that reminded them of their own daughter of 2 Years age. Charlotte Willner proclaimed in a Facebook post on June 15, 2018, that this is the exact face their daughter makes when she is frightened.
The money collected from the funds will be forwarded to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES). It is a large immigration legal services no-profit organization from Texas. In addition to $12 Million on Facebook, RAICES has raised an additional fund of $4.5 Million from its own website.
On a similar note, recently, Facebook has announced that the company will soon permit the group administrators to charge members for providing special contents on the social media platform. Initially, the private groups related to parenting, cooking, and home cleaning on Facebook will be offered to utilize the innovative feature as part of a test program.
Alex Deve, Product Director, Facebook, released a blog post on Wednesday. As per the blog post, the company is in the process of piloting subscriptions with a limited number of groups. Further, he proclaimed that the company has taken this initiative to support the group administrators leading the communities with the help of Facebook groups.
