Fake News A Threat To Democracy Warns UK MP

The parliamentary committee has issued a warning that the UK is on the verge of a democratic crisis as the voters are being sabotaged with destructive views and inappropriate data.

The scandal of Cambridge Analytica has stirred the base of the trust instated on the social media platforms. In fact, the Committee for DCMS or the Digital, Culture, Media, and Sports has also initiated an investigation regarding the spreading of the fake news in the society, which may affect the potential voters. The MPs have even suggested that the social media networks must face stricter consequences if these fail to abide by the law.

The committee was supposed to release the detailed report on Sunday but the Director of the Brexit Campaign had leaked the report on his own blog on Friday. The leaked report revealed that the MPs are about to take serious actions to deplete the risks imposed on the democracy of the country. They have also highlighted the hyper-partisan views that target to alter the voting plans by taking advantage of the preconceived notions of the people. This report will also ensure Facebook is scrutinized minutely.

It will express the concerns regarding the pattern of response from Facebook when asked for cooperation. The report will also suggest that the social media platform believes the ignorance of the problems will these go away.

The report will clearly describe the evidence of voter suppression, hacking, and disinformation received by the members during the elections for the past 8 years. However, it will ask the National Crime Agency to investigate the findings minutely in order to get to the roots of the allegations.

The Chief of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg will again be called to produce the relevant pieces of evidence, in response to the prevailing scenarios.

Though the final report is yet to come, the initial leaked report had revealed a huge portion of the same.
