Earlier It Was Videos, And Now It Is VR Which Helps In Remembering

The scientist at Maryland University has found that individuals can remember information for a long time and in a better manner if they are displayed in VR comparing to a 2-D personal computer. This has backed the suggestion that VR is a better choice of educating people.

Dean Amitabh Varshney, College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences at UMD, said, “The findings are hopeful as it suggests that this growing environment could provide new pathways for enhanced results in high-proficiency level and education.

The research was quite complex and analyzed 40 subjects who were comfortable with VR and computers about their ability to remember things. To test this, they have built a memory place where they have stored various images. This type of spatial mnemonic encoding is quite usual memory trick which helps in better recall.

Eric Krokos, the lead researcher, said, “Humans tend to utilized visual mediums to help remember the information in a better manner, whether it is of a clay tablet, cave drawings, video, image or printed text. We are testing whether the VR devices are next big step in this progression.”

Desktop users can effectively perform the feat but the users utilizing VR performed it statistically better, an astonishing twist on the role of VR in the education system. The scientists think that VR adds a layer of actuality to the user experience which makes the human brain to build a memory place in 3D style.

Researchers wrote, “Numerous participants said the visuals at the time of using VR help them to focus better. The findings of the research have shown that 40% of users who utilize VR have 10% higher ability to recall things compared to what they saw on desktop devices.”

This finding leads to the possibility that utilizing VR for education in future will help people remember, recall and understand things in a better manner.
